For years, I’ve watched the same moment happen over and over at the pool. A little one stands at the water’s edge, nervous and unsure, and then, lesson by lesson, something clicks. The fear turns into excitement. They realize they can do it. That moment is the reason I teach, and it’s the reason I wrote a book.
I’m so excited to share that my children’s book, “Becoming a Fishy,” is now available.
What the story is about
The book follows a little girl named Lucy on her very first swim journey. She feels the butterflies before her first lesson, wonders if she’s ready, and slowly discovers her own courage in the water. It’s a gentle, honest story about that leap every child takes, and every parent watches with their heart in their throat.
I wanted it to feel real. Lucy’s nerves, her excitement, her “I did it!” moment, those come straight from the thousands of little swimmers I’ve had the privilege to teach.

Why a book?
Swimming is a life skill, and confidence in the water starts long before a child ever gets in the pool. A story is one of the gentlest ways to open that door, to turn nervousness into curiosity, and curiosity into a love of the water.
