About The Instructor

MEET BRAD HURVITZ

Hello there!  My name is Brad Hurvitz and swimming is one my favorite activities!  I learned how to swim at the JCC, in the same area of the pool that I currently teach in!  I swam competitively and played water polo in high school here in San Diego and you can find me ocean swimming from the La Jolla Cove to the Shores most summer weekends.  I graduated from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo with a major in Social Psychology and received an MBA from Oregon State University.  Spending my time helping others has always been a priority to me.  In 2009 I ventured to rural India to teach at a boarding school for 5 months, shortly after I started a nonprofit company (Trek to Teach) that improves the educational opportunities for students in the rural Himalayas of Nepal.
Combining my passions of helping others and swimming were simple to do once I watched a local ISR Instructor teach my niece.  Her confidence flourished and her skills quickly enhanced as the days progressed.  I knew that I wanted to learn the ISR process and become an Instructor.
My wife and I both grew up in San Diego at the JCC, we knew each other while at the preschool and re-connected after grad school.  Our child Amelia, a lively 2 and a half year old toddler, will learn how to swim with me this summer! Once she gains these valuable swimming skills, my wife and I will be grateful that our young child has the ability to survive an accident in the pool.  I have a friend who was found at the bottom of the pool when she was Amelia’s age; this image is haunting and impossible to ignore. Luckily, the child was found in time and today is a happy and healthy adult.  We can prevent drowning by properly training our children through ISR.  The ISR motto of “Not One More Child Drowns” is one I hold to heart and will proudly help implement!  Implemented with a smile 🙂  I look forward to hearing from you!

Brad is amazing! Patient, calm and great energy.

“My daughter felt comfortable learning from him right away. She learned quickly and by the end was swimming and getting air on her own. We will be taking them again to develop her stroke and continue learning.”

We had such an amazing summer with Brad!

“Both my 2 1/2 year old and my 15 month old took ISR swim lessons with Brad. By the end of our lessons, my oldest was swimming across the pool, getting air when he needed it and getting to the side easily for safety. My 15 month old was able to turn onto his back and float in order to get air and also orient himself to the side/step then swim/kick there to get to safety!”

Brad is possibly the most amazing teacher ever, period.

“From day 1, he was able to make my son feel so comfortable. Within a few days, my son was already making significant progress, and was beginning to swim by the end of the first week. By the end of the six weeks, my son who was terrified of the water before is swimming across the pool.”

We LOVED our experience with Brad at my baby swims and ISR.

“The method of teaching babies and toddlers to swim is so amazing, and the results are nothing short of astounding. Our children are having so much fun in the water, and we feel so safe knowing that they have the skills to help themselves should an unthinkable accident happen.”
